Privacy Statement

The Journal of South Asian Issues (JSAI) will only use the names and email addresses on its website for its stated purposes.

The data collected from both registered and non-registered users falls within the standard operational scope of peer-reviewed academic journals. The editorial team collects only such personal information as is necessary and appropriate to support the user’s interactions with the journal. This includes facilitating communication essential to the editorial and peer review processes, informing readers about the authorship and editorial history of published content, and gathering aggregated data on readership behaviours.

Certain anonymised and aggregated data may be shared with the journal’s publishing platform developer, Public Knowledge Project (PKP), to improve the platform, except for article metrics, which may be processed differently. JSAI and PKP will not sell or use user data for purposes not explicitly specified in this policy.

Authors publishing in JSAI are responsible for ensuring that any human subject data included in their research complies with relevant ethical standards and privacy protections. The editorial team is committed to adhering to industry standards for data privacy, including compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which provides for:

  • breach notification,

  • right of access,

  • right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”),

  • data portability, and

  • privacy by design.

The GDPR also recognises the importance of maintaining the public record of scholarly publishing, which is central to our mission to uphold the integrity of academic research.
